Course/Module description:
The course deals with the work of the Knesset, the members of the Knesset and their relations with third parties that directly interface with the Knesset - all with a contemporary context of the laws that apply to the Knesset.
Course/Module aims:
The course will provide students with an in-depth introduction to the Knesset and its institutions, with a unique analysis of diverse parliamentary issues from both academic and practical aspects. The course will familiarize students with the work, rights and duties of members of the Knesset and the tools available to them in fulfilling their duties. In addition, the course will introduce the students to the legislative process, the various factors involved in it, and the judicial review in relation to it.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Know the Knesset, its institutions and the tools available to its members in their work, in particular in the field of legislation.
2. Legally analyze current events from the fields of politics and parliamentarism.

Frontal instruction combined with active participation of the students.
Course/Module Content:
Lessons 1+2: Introduction to the course; Knesset institutions and the establishment of a new Knesset.
Lesson 3: Factions and parties.
Lesson 4: The resources for parliamentary work in the plenary and committees.
Lessons 5+6: The legislative process: how laws are made.
Lessons 7+8: The Budget Law and the Omnibus Law (“the Arrangements Law”), judicial review of legislation.
Lessons 9+10: The unique status of Knesset members - immunities and privileges.
Lesson 11: Lobbyists.
Lesson 12: Public funding for parliamentary activity.
Lessons 13: Ethics of Knesset members.
