תאור כללי של הקורס:
הקורס יעסוק בסוגיות יסוד הנובעות מלידתו של הרעיון הפוליטי במרחב הערבי ויתמקד בהשלכות של התפתחות רעיון זה על הארגון המדינתי והחברתי. הדיון בקורס יתנהל בשתי רמות מקבילות, רמה תיאורטית ורמה היסטורית. באמצעות שתי גישות אלה נתייחס בחלק הראשון של הקורס לתיאוריות ולמושגי יסוד שמילאו תפקיד מרכזי בחשיבה על פוליטיקה בעת המודרנית. לשם כך, נעסוק באידיאולוגיות המרכזיות ובמסורות שהתהוו והפכו תשתית נורמטיבית למוסדות ולחוקות של המדינות שקמו במאה העשרים. בחלק השני של הקורס נתמקד בפוליטיקה בת הזמן, מהתקופה שלאחר מלחמת העולם השנייה ועד ימינו. באמצעות ההתמקדות בשני המושגים "רפובליקה" ו"מונרכיה" ננסה להבין את החוזים החברתיים, את הנורמות ואת קשרי הגומלין בין כלכלה ופוליטיקה כפי שהם התפתחו במדינות ערב. המטרה של הקורס היא לחשוף את התלמידים לכלים תיאורטיים והיסטוריים שבאמצעותם הם יוכלו להבין ולנתח את הפוליטיקה המודרנית של העולם הערבי.
