תאור כללי של הקורס:
קורס זה נועד לבחון את תנאי אגן הים התיכון כאזור להשתלבות אזורית של מדינת ישראל ובאמצעות זאת את שילובה של ישראל במערכת הבינלאומית. בפוליטיקה הגלובלית הנוכחית, מדינות משתמשות בהשתתפותן באזורים ובאזוריות כ"אבן קפיצה" לקראת תהליך הגלובליזציה, המגשר בין הרמות המקומיות והבינלאומיות. בכך, האזור מספק למדינות הלאום דרך ליצור קשר הדרגתי עם העולם תוך שמירה על התכונות הקהילתיות/פרטיקולריות.
במהלך הקורס נתייחס למספר ממדים של אזור אגן הים התיכון ומקומה של ישראל בו (לרבות גיאופוליטיקה, כלכלה, זהות, מערכת פוליטית פנימית, היסטוריה ודיפלומטיה), המצויים בתחרות מתמדת. כמו כן, נכיר את תהליכי האזוריות שהתפתחו באגן הים התיכון בעשורים האחרונים וננתח אותם על סמך מסגרות תיאורטיות של אינטגרציה אזורית, תוך השוואתם מול תהליכים תת-אזוריים מקבילים באירופה, במזרח התיכון ואפריקה. לבסוף, נעסוק בריבוי הפרויקטים של שיתוף פעולה אזורי ובינלאומי בהם משתתפת ישראל ונדון בהזדמנויות והסכנות השונות של "האופציה הים-תיכונית" לעתיד של מדינת ישראל.

מטרות הקורס:
- לעודד מחקר על תהליכי אינטגרציה אזורית ותת-אזורית באגן הים התיכון.
- לפתח חשיבה על חשיבות האזור ועל השתתפות בפרויקטים אזוריים עבוד מדינת ישראל.
- להקנות לתלמידים כלים תיאורטיים, מתודולוגיים ואמפיריים לניתוח תפקידה של ישראל באזור בכלל ובאגן הים התיכון בפרט.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
בסיומו בהצלחה של מודול זה, התלמידים אמורים להיות מסוגלים:
- לקרוא באופן ביקורתי ספרות אקדמית רלוונטית וניתוחים מכווני-מדיניות כדי להבין טוב יותר את המקום של ישראל באזור.
- לרכוש ידע בסיסי על אזור אגן הים התיכון ביחסים הבינלאומיים בני-זממנו והניסיונות השונים של שיתוף פעולה אזורית ותת-אזורי שקודמו על ידי מדינות האזור.
- לתכנן פרויקט מחקר המתמקד במקרה בוחן אחד, שיוצג בכיתה בהמשך.

שיעור 1 – מבוא לאינטגרציה אזורית באגן הים התיכון והמקום של ישראל בו.
שיעור 2 – ניתוח של אגן הים התיכון א' – גיאוגרפיה, היסטוריה של מעצמות אזוריות וזהות.
שיעור 3 – ניתוח של אגן הים התיכון ב' – ביטחון, מערכת פוליטית פנימית ודיפלומטיה.
שיעור 4 – ניתוח של אגן הים התיכון ג' – כלכלה, מסחר, תשתיות ופיננסים.
שיעור 5 – תיאוריות על אזוריות, שיתוף פעולה אזורי ואינטגרציה אזורית.
שיעור 6 - אינטגרציה אזורית באגן הים התיכון: מארגונים אזוריים לארגונים תת-אזוריים. השוואה אל מול תהליכים מקבילים באירופה, המזרח התיכון ואפריקה.
שיעור 7 – האיחוד הים תיכוני: הקמה, מבנה מוסדי, משתתפים, פעילות. אתגרים: לגיטימציה, פופוליזם, "עייפות אזורית", "ארגונים אזוריים חופפים".
שיעור 8 – דיון: מדינת ישראל והשתלבותה באזור, לאן?
שיעור 9 – הצגת פרויקטים 1 (TBD) ודיון קולקטיבי.
שיעור 10 – הצגת פרויקטים 2 (TBD) ודיון קולקטיבי.
