Course/Module description:
This course will introduce students to themes relating to the histories of Vienna and its surrounding area from prehistoric times to the present and will include a Study Tour to the city.

Course/Module aims:
After a series of informal lectures and PowerPoint presentations in Jerusalem introducing topics, the students will visit the sites discussed in order to understand them in their current context.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Students should be able to recognize important locations in the city and relate them to significant phases in its history. A research project after the study tour will require the students to synthesize the lectures, the visit, and their own research on a topic of their choice to be determined in consultation with the instructor.

Attendance requirements(%):
Attendance is mandatory, as is participation in the Study Tour.

Reading assignments will be drawn from two websites: the City of Vienna’s and Habsburger.net.

Additional Reading Material:
Students will be asked to select primary sources to analyze from a list to be distributed. These will include poetry, music, architecture, a novella, a novel, and a film.
