Course/Module description:
This course offers a toolbox for Critical thought and cultural criticism, and an examination of changes that have occurred in critical thought, from Marx, Adorno and Horkheimer's cultural critique, through the post-structuralist thought of: Fanon to contemporary times. Extensive emphasis will be given to the Contemporary Continental Thinking, which developed in Europe (especially in France) from the late 1960s, and to thinkers such as: Michel Foucault, Jacques Derrida, Jean Francois Lyotard, Giorgio Agamben, Jacques Rancier, Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari, Etienne Balibar and Allain Badiou.
The purpose of this course is to become acquainted with various aspects of contemporary critical thought: its key concepts, questions at its center, and the new perspectives it offers to describe, interpret, and critically examine contemporary culture and the contemporary global world. During the course, we will read and discuss texts that have become cultural-textual events. We will also become acquainted with critical concepts, such as: "Cultural Industry," "Society of the Spectacle," " Fetishism of the Sign," " Simulacra and Simulations," " Distribution of the Sensible", "Differend", "Deconstruction", "Aporia", "Biopolitics," and " bare life", and examine their possible fruitfulness, in relation to diverse cultural, social, and political phenomena and events of contemporary times.
During the lessons, we will also watch YouTube videos, and at the end of each semester, we will watch a film that echoes the themes that were discussed during the semester, such as: Jean-Luc Godard's film: "Our Music" (Notre Musique) Laurent Cantet, "Entre Les Murs "), Elia Suleiman's film: " The Time that Remains "

Course/Module Content:
The course will cover a wide range of critical themes: dealing with, among other things, commodity fetishism and racial fetishism, the contemporary society of Spectacle, rethinking the subject or human rights issue, discussing the duty of hospitality (of refugees and immigrant), and the aporias of forgiveness ; We will also discuss the relation between the body and the law, and the relation between language, identity and belonging, and will constantly examine, through the critical discourses of culture, the contemporary cultural phenomena and major political events that took place from the second half of the 20th century to the present day
