Course/Module description:
In this course, we will review anthropological theories and perspective regarding sex, gender and sexuality. Throughout the course, we will discuss the ways in which different cultures understand and construct those social categories, and the changes that occurred in their social understanding through time. We will review subjects such as gender scripts, sexual practices and orientation, and the social construction of the biological sex.
We will also deal with the changes that occurred in anthropological theory in regard to sex, gender and sexuality after the “crisis of representation” and will focus on the shift from looking at the “wild and untamed” sexuality of the natives, to the research of those topics in western culture.
Course/Module aims:
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1.Student will be familiar with the approaches and theories of the field of knowledge 'Anthropology of sex, gender and sexuality'
2.Students will be able to identify the social and cultural effect on the construction of those categories.
3.Students will know how to apply a basic critical thinking regarding those categories.

Course/Module Content:
Anthropology of the biological sex, gendered identities in a cultural perspective, anthropology of “native” sexuality, the crisis of representation and its impact on the cultural categories of sex, sexuality and gender, sexual scripts in cultural perspective.
