Course/Module description:
This course deals with a sociological examination of the essence of globalization and its implications as the most sweeping social process of our time. As part of this course, we will review sociological approaches to the study of globalization and will examine the social phenomena of the global age which we live in. We will discuss the globalization process and its implications and try to understand whether there are still significant "global" and "local" or have they been replaced by a "global" configuration? We will look at how the world government system was constructed, and what are the implications of globalization for the character of communities, social institutions and the identity of the people living in this world society. The discussion of these issues will be done while examining different case studies from the global and local realities.
Course/Module aims:
1. Critically observe the key features of the globalization process.
2. Familiarity with sociological theories for the study of globalization.
3. Discussion of the implications of globalization for the nature of social life in this age.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Students will become familiar with theories of globalization
2. Students will be able to examine sociologically the impact of globalization on society.
3. Students will become familiar with different concepts of globalization.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction:
The course will combine different teaching methods: frontal teaching, discussions, active group learning, peer learning.
1. In the course of teaching, illustrative means such as: films, newspaper clippings and sources will be incorporated.

2. Sociological examination of the impact of globalization on the social structures in which we operate.
3. What is global, local and global.
4. Identity and education in a global age.
