Course/Module description:
I'll review historical changes in the conceptualization of PTSD, introduce current definitions and theories explaining PTSD. I'll Explore evidence-based treatment and their efficacy.
Course/Module aims:
Deep understanding of PTSD, risk and resilience factors in the development of PTSD. Current research aimed to improve treatment efficacy and to develop primary and secondary preventative intervention techniques.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Acquire the ability to suggest a diagnosis of PTSD based on symptoms, to offer efficient treatment, deepen the understanding of the current knowledge in research and suggest new ideas for research.

Course/Module Content:
Historical conceptualizations of PTSD, biological, psychoanalytic and cognitive models explaining PTSD, violence and trauma- military trauma (combat, captivity) and rape, prolonged trauma- incest, holocaust, and intergenerational transmission of trauma, and dissociative states as a way of coping with trauma, suicide and aggression. Treatment- cognitive, biological and psycho-dynamic approaches. Primary and secondary prevention, transference and counter-transference in PTSD treatment, research and trauma.
