Course/Module description:
In this course we will learn about the development of the four psychoanalytic psychotherapy models so that they will enhance the analysis of the therapeutic session from different prespectives. Two students will present in the latter third of the semester therapeutic sessions which will be analyzed according to the four psychoanlytic psychotherapy models.
Course/Module aims:
The objective of the course is to equip the students with a map of the different psychoanalysis approaches and the points of view that each approach adds to the treatment process.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. To identify which of the 4 steps in the development of psychoanalysis: drive-defense, object relations, self psychology, or relational psychoanalysis, best explains a given therapeutic session.
2. To be able, upon reading a given psychotherapeutic session, to point to one of the four theoretical models that could govern its handling.
3. To be able upon reading a given psychotherapeutic session to decide which theoretical model best fits the given developmental phase the patient is in.
4. Analyze resistance from each of the 4 theoretical models.
5. Analyzing the role of counter transference in handling the therapeutic session in each of the four theoretical models.
