תאור כללי של הקורס:
ההיסטוריה המודרנית של פרטיות היא מטבעה גם היסטוריה של טכנולוגיות מודרניות, כאשר דרכים חדשות לתעד את החיים היומיומיים ולאפשר תקשורת במרחק העלו דאגות שמה פרטיותנו נמצאת בסכנה חסרת תקדים. במהלך הקורס נבחן את מושג הפרטיות עצמו; 'פרדוקס הפרטיות', שלפיו אנחנו טוענים כי אכפת לנו מאוד מפרטיותנו אך מתנהגים כאילו לא אכפת לנו כלל וכלל; גישות שונות לפרטיות ועצמיות (selfhood); פרטיות, כוח ומעמד; פרטיות וטרנספורמציות דוריות; פיקוח מדינתי ועלייתה של מדינת מאגרי המידע (database nation); והתרבות של חשיפה עצמית ושיתוף בתוכניות אירוח, ריאליטי טי.וי. ופייסבוק.

מטרות הקורס:
קורס זה יקנה לסטודנטים הכרות עם הסוגיות המרכזיות בוויכוחים העכשוויים מסביב לשאלות של פרטיות וטכנולוגיה בכלל, והשימוש שלנו במדיה חברתיים בפרט.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:

1) להשוות הגדרות שונות של פרטיות ולעמוד על ההבדלים ביניהם.
2) להעריך טיעונים מהשיח הפופולארי אודות פרטיות
3) לנתח את הקשר בין פרטיות לבין טכנולוגיה
4) לבקר את השימוש של טכנולוגיות של פיקוח על ידי המדינה וגורמים מסחריים
