Course/Module description:
The aim of the course is to provide a panoramic view of the development of Israeli culture, with an emphasis on its changing values: from the Zionist revolution and its roots in modernity, through the crises of Israel's collective ethos, and on to the age of privatization and the rise of the postmodern spirit. The relations between the individual and the collective, the changing moral horizon, foreign influences, and internal tensions will be focused on. The course will use a wide range of sources, and thus will introduce students to a variety of methodologies for the study of culture.

The course will serve as an introduction to Israel's cultural and social history, as well as introducing students to a variety of methodologies for the study of culture.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
The students will aquire a basic knowledge of the origin of the Zionist idea, it's realization and the main ideological controversies that have taken place in Israeli society from the founding of the State of Israel to our day.
