Course/Module description:
The goal of the course to teach how to prepare different layers of architectural program plans and how urban geographer / planner integrate all planning processes. Preparation program that is actually "the plan in words" requires a thorough study of the country, the city, the neighborhood and the site from different angles and defining their future development needs. We will learn how to translate goals and objectives into planning and execution processes.
Intention to focus on the practical aspects of the work of the urban geographer / planner planning processes, using examples of programs and plans from desktop government ministries and local authorities.

Course/Module aims:
1.To expose students to programmatic thinking in the typical planning and development processes today.
2. To provide practical tools alongside critical thinking, as a basis for future integration in the profession

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To prepare different programs for various plans, evaluate the contribution (and limitations) of programs to plans and Accompanying a planning process.

Attendance requirements(%):
80%

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal lectures accompanied by a presentation and practice with various programs.

Course/Module Content:
1. Introduction, definition of the concept of the program and the role of the urban planner in the planning process, the work environment and the influencing factors.

2. Land uses in planning, statutory contexts, types of plans and appropriate programs for them.

3. Residential programs -, net and gross density, forecasts and estimate of housing needs.

4. Programs for public services - principles, emphases and tools.

5. Programs for employment and trade areas - models, methods and tools.

6. Programmatic issues in urban renewal - from planning to management, mixing uses.

7. Programmatic issues in Arab society/ Orthodox society/ rural sector.

8. Possibility of a study tour to illustrate the issues studied

** Course topics will be incorporated into the background related to the relevant ground policy, examples and illustrations, as well as experiences and classroom exercises.
