Course/Module description:
The course will provide an overview on East Jerusalem: the status of the population and the Israeli Policy towards it since 1967, with an emphasis on changes since the building of the separation wall in the early 2000s.
The course looks at aspects of Israeli policy for East Jerusalem, and on the daily life of the Palestinian residents there. The course emphasizes spatial and planning issues, including spatial aspects of transport, education and health as well as housing, public spaces, urban regeneration and more.

Course/Module aims:
To expose the students to current urban and social planning issues in East Jerusalem, the economic, the legal and the social status of its' residence; in order to better understand the complexities that characterize the context.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Deepening students' knowledge on current social, political and economic situation in East Jerusalem.
To develop the students' problem solving abilities in the context of East Jerusalem

Attendance requirements(%):
80% attendance

Course/Module Content:
1. Historical background on the issue of citizenship and permanent residency in East Jerusalem, and the related governmental decisions
2. A field tour in East Jerusalem
3. Introduction on urban planning issues in East Jerusalem
4. The separation wall and its' implications on the emergence of informal housing in the East Jerusalem neighborhoods outside the wall.
5.Infrastructure and transportation
6.The Healthcare system in East Jerusalem
7. Education system in East Jerusalem and higher education issues
8.Community leadership crisis in East Jerusalem
9.Economy and employment in East Jerusalem
