תאור כללי של הקורס:
בקורס נעסוק בסוגיות חברתיות ותרבותיות הקשורות למגדר, צריכה וזהות ביפן העכשווית. נתמקד בשני תחומים עיקריים בהם סוגיות אלו באות לידי ביטוי מובהק: תחום המשפחה, המהווה ספירה פרטית, ותחום הצריכה, המהווה ספירה ציבורית. במהלך הקורס נבחן מספר פרקטיקות מחיי היומיום ביפן, וננתח אותן כתבניות טעונות ערכים ואידאולוגיות.

מטרות הקורס:
מטרת הקורס היא להציג פרספקטיבה אנתרופולוגית על תפקידים ויחסים מגדריים ביפן, כמו גם על נורמות חברתיות העומדות מאחוריהם וההקשר ההיסטורי בו עוצבו.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
הסטודנטים יכירו לעומק כמה מן האספקטים הפחות מוכרים של החברה והתרבות היפנית וירכשו פרספקטיבה חדשה על מוסדות וערכים המעצבים את פניה של החברה הזו. הקורס יקנה כלים לניתוח שיסייעו במחקר אקדמי בתחומים השונים של מדעי הרוח והחברה.

שיטת ההוראה בקורס: השיעור יהיה בנוי מהצגת הנושא ע"י המורה ודיון פרטני בנושא בהתבסס על החומר הביבליוגרפי.
הביבליוגרפיה של הקורס מהווה מאגר מאמרים שממנו נבחר סוגיות לעיסוק מעמיק בהתאם לנושאי המחקר של הסטודנטים.כל סטודנט יתבקש להציג רפרט בנושא שיבחר לכתוב עליו את העבודה הסופית.
