Course/Module description:
The course will focus on developing various academic skills in order to improve the students' research abilities. In addition, we will read primary and secondary sources related to Dr. Sherer's course.

On successful completion of this module, students should be able to search and read primary and secondary sources. They will know how to write bibliography correctly.

Course/Module Content:
Lesson 1 - Academical writing + primary sources.
Lesson 2 - Shinto + topic selection.
Lesson 3 - Research Question + Chinese Influences.
Lesson 4 - Searching for sources + Nara period.
Lesson 5 - Structure and arrguments + Heian period.
Lesson 6 - Correct writing + Rise of the Samurai and the Genpei War.
Lesson 7 - Writing anchors (part 1).
Lesson 8 - Writing anchors (part 2) + Samurai fighting methods.
Lesson 9 - References, bibliography + Kamakura.
Lesson 10 - Visual sources + Kamakura (part 2).
Lesson 11 - Muromachi, Sengoku + additional points.
Lesson 12 - Sengoku period + The 3 Unifiers.
Lesson 13 - Tips and tricks + The foreigners arrival to Japan.
Lesson 14 - Edo period and final summary.

Additional information:
Students are required to read the reading material before each lesson. By using the skills learned in class the students are required to submit 3 assignments during the semester. At the end of the semester the students are required to submit a final assignment about the history of Japan until 1860's.
