תאור כללי של הקורס:
כניסתן של ה-״אחיות הלטיניות״ צרפת ואיטליה אל המודרניות התרחשה במקביל ותוך כדי השפעה הדדית. במהלך המאה ה-19 וה-20, תמורות פוליטיות, חברתיות, ותרבותיות אדירות שהתרחשו במדינה אחת השפיעו והקרינו על התפתחותם של תהליכים דומים במדינה השנייה. פילוסופים ואינטלקטואלים איטלקים וצרפתים שאבו השראה זה מזה או התווכחו זה עם זה, תנועות פוליטיות צמחו תוך כדי חיקוי מודלים צרפתיים או איטלקיים, פוליטיקאים יצרו חוקים וקווי מדיניות לאחר התבוננות מלאת אופטימיות או חרדה בהתרחשות פוליטיות שהתפתחו בשני צדדיו של רכס האלפים, ופעילים של תנועות לשחרור מיני או מעמדי חלקו אסטרטגיות ושיתפו פעולה. קורס זה יבחן את חוויית המודרניות המשותפת הזו. נלמד, בין השאר, על המהפכה הצרפתית וה-״ריסורג'ימנטו״, חילוניות ואנטי-קתוליות, מחשבה גזעית ״לטינית״ וקולוניאליזם, מחשבה ופוליטיקה פשיסטית, רזיסטאנס וקולנוע נאו-ריאליסטי, מהפכה מינית, 1968, ואלימות פוליטית מרקסיסטית.

מטרות הקורס:
1. לזהות ולתאר את צורות שונות של השיח בין היסטוריונים בתוך התחומים ההיסטוריוגרפיים המוגדרים על הפרק
2. ללמוד ליישם שיטות היסטוריות להערכה ביקורתית של תיעוד העבר וכיצד ההיסטוריונים ואחרים פירשו אותו.

תוצרי למידה :
בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:

1. לרכוש כישורי מחקר היסטוריים וכלים: ספריות, ארכיונים ומאגרי מידע.
2. ללמוד לארגן ולהביע טיעונים ומחשבות, בכתב ובעל פה.
3. לשלוט בידע ובמיומנויות הכרוכות בפרקטיקה ההיסטורית
