Course/Module description:
A study of five of Shakespeare's plays via a close analysis of texts and performances.
Plays to be studied this year differ between the two sections.
In Tzachi Zamir's section, the plays are:
Richard II
Antony and Cleopatra
Love's Labour's Lost
Twelfth Night
King Lear

In Micha Lazarus's section, the plays are:
Henry IV part I
Merchant of Venice
Othello
Antony and Cleopatra
Winter's Tale

Course/Module aims:
Close guided reading and in-depth analysis of five Shakespeare plays, discussing thematic, figurative, and theatrical issues.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
exhibit an ability to read the plays, taking into account their literary, historical and theatrical aspects.

to articulate a variety of possible meaningful interpretations of key scenes.

to specify differences between texts designed to be read by contrast to text written to be embodied.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lecture, class discussion, screening of selected productions of the plays.

Course/Module Content:
The course covers five plays by William Shakespeare.
The selected plays vary from year to year and between groups.
