Course/Module description:
Ancient Glass Treasures through the Ages
This course provides a preliminary glimpse into the study of ancient glass. We will discuss the production techniques, typology and chronology of glass finds since its beginning in the second millennium BCE till the Byzantine period, with an emphasis on finds discovered in Israel. The lectures include videos of glass technology and production methods and practical handling of glass finds from various excavations throughout Israel. A condensed class will be carried out as an excursion in a museum collection or archaeological site.

Course/Module aims:
Understanding the ancient glass industry and its implications , through production techniques, vessel types and their chronology.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Identify production techniques and vessel types.
Date glass vessels to different chronological periods.
Understand the glass industry and its implications

Course/Module Content:
The glass finds from the Late Bronze to the Islamic period. Technological and typological aspects with further analysis.
