Course/Module description:
Study of the basic grammar of the Sumerian language, basic vocabulary. Reading basic texts

Course/Module aims:
Knowledge of Sumerian and the problems of its understanding, and the ability to read basic Sumerian texts

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Know the grammar of Sumerian
Know the basic vocabulary of Sumerian
Know the basic cuneiform signs used for Sumerian
Analyze the various problems of and views on Sumerian
Know to use the grammatical books and lexical tools of Sumerian
Read basic Sumerian texts independently

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: lectures, homework,exercises

Course/Module Content:
Semester 1: Grammar of noun and verb and reading of basic royal inscriptions
Semester 2: Reading royal inscriptions and statue inscriptions of Gudea ruler of Lagash, and additions of grammar
