Course/Module description:
Survey of the wide and fluid genre of Wisdom Literature. Reading different WL compositions, the Old Babylonian Period to the 1st mill. BCE.

Course/Module aims:
Getting to know the typical religious, cultural and literary features of Mesopotamian Wisdom Literature.
Gaining experience in reading literary texts in the Standard Babylonian register of Akkadian.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Know the sapiential world of ancient Mesopotamia.
Have experience in reading literary Akkadian texts.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Preparing the text at home and reading it in the seminar, using different philological and grammatical tools.
