Course/Module description:
An in-depth reading of different Babylonian codes from the middle of the second millennium BCE: notably, the Laws of Eshnunna and the Laws of Hammurapi. Understanding the legal principles intertwined in the texts; investigating the foundations of Mes. society in this period, as it is reflected in the laws; identifying literary devices used in the laws.
Course/Module aims:
Widening the knowledge of Akkadian syntax and lexicon; learning about the main concepts of ancient Mesopotamian legal system.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Reading medium-difficult Akkadian texts, expanding the knowledge of Akkadian syntax and lexicon.
