Course/Module description:
The Akkadian Myth Ishtar's Descent to the Netherworld is an adaptation of the earlier Sumerian myth "Inanna's Descent to the Netherworld". The Akkadian text will be read, its relation to the Sumerian myth will be discussed, and its ritual context will be examined.

Course/Module aims:
Deepen knowledge of Akkadian and cuneiform
Encounter the Akkadian mythic world

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
read an Akkadian text independently
know about Akkadian mythology
