Course/Module description:

Akkadian is one of the oldest languages ​​in the world known to us (along with ancient Egyptian and Sumerian). In the course we will learn the grammar of the noun, adjective and verb in Akkadian, we will acquire a first acquaintance with cuneiform script and read various texts in Akkadian, all while providing a historical and linguistic background.

Course/Module aims:
Getting to know the declensions of the noun and adjective in Akkadian, and esp. the verbal system (on all stems and verb forms).
Familiarizing with cuneiform script, and reading texts in Akkadian (in transcription and with the help of dictionaries).

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
At the end of the course, students will be able to analyze nouns and verbs in Akkadian and will read short texts in Akkadian with the help of dictionaries and reference books.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: frontal teaching

Nominal declinations (with construct forms), complete verbal system.

Required Reading:
We will be using, during the first half of the year Caplice, Introduction to Akkadian, 1988.
