Course/Module description:
The Course is philological by nature. It presents the Akkadian language, esp. that of the Old Babylonian
period (c. 1800-1500 BCE) in its historical and linguistic context.
We shall learn nominal and verbal declinations, c. 100 cuneiform signs, and basic syntactic structure in Akk.
Course/Module aims:
To reach solid knowledge of Akk. morphology (nouns and verbal forms).
To learn basic syntactic structures in Akk.
To know c. 100 cuneiform signs.
To bring the class to the level needed for 2nd/3rd year Akk.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To analyse/parse nominal forms in Akk.
To analyse/parse verbal forms in Akk. and identify their root.
To read some literary and legal texts in Akk. with the help of glossary.
