Course/Module description:
This course is a linguistic introduction of modern Judeo-Spanish (Ladino), which includes its most elementary structures, as well as some links with its history and with medieval Spanish and other Romance languages.

Course/Module aims:
Acquisition of skills by students so that they can deal with texts in Judeo-Spanish and know the principles on which its language structure is based.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Understand texts of simple until intermediate difficulty.
• Identify the common morphological forms as well as some syntactic patterns, and translate a text with the aid of a dictionary and a grammar.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the phonological, morphological, and syntactic rules governing Judeo-Spanish.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures, reading, practical exercises, analysis of parts of speech and sentences, texts translation, debate, final Take-home.
