Course/Module description:
In addition to further deepening the description of the basic structures of Ladino, issues on which the research has focused will constitute the main agenda of this course.

Course/Module aims:
Acquisition of new skills for the comprehension of texts, the extension of the knowledge that students already have about the principles that govern the structure of Ladino by reading articles and academic chapters and discussing them in class, among others.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Understand texts of intermediate to advanced difficulty.
• Identify the common morphological forms and some syntactic patterns, and translate texts.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the phonological, morphological, and syntactic rules governing Ladino.
• Be able to critically analyse and discuss academic readings on topics related to the Ladino language.

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures, reading, practical exercises, analysis of texts, linguistic glosses, debate, a presentation per participant, a final essay/project work or seminar work.

Course/Module Content:
• A brief review of the basic structures of Ladino.
• Some structures of Ladino not yet explained.
• Structure of the Noun Phrase.
• Structure of the Verb Phrase.
• The simple sentence.
• Clitics.
• Inalienable Possession in Ladino.
• SER and ESTAR.
• Passive voice.
• Passives and SE constructions.
• Relative clauses and other types of subordinate clauses.
• An overview of the geographical varieties of Ladino.
• Reading and discussions, translation, analysis of texts, etc.

Required Reading:
It will be given throughout the semester via Moodle.

• Prerequisite: Course 41451 “Introduction to the structure of Ladino (Judeo-Spanish)” or knowledge of Ladino or Spanish with the coordinator's approval.
