Course/Module description:
The course introduces the morphology and syntax of Classical Sanskrit.
The reading materials are based on Sanskrit sources and accompanied with writing exercises. Acquaintance with Classical Indian Culture as expressed in Sanskrit language structure and texts.
Course/Module aims:
The course provides basic knowledge of the grammar of Sanskrit as a research language and trains the students in reading Sanskrit on the basis of philological and linguistic analysis.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
identify and inflect verbal and nominal morphology
analyse syntactic structures
translate texts from and to Sanskrit
utilize basic philological methodology
