Course/Module description:
The environmental field, in the broader sense of the term, is a fertile ground for complex conflicts. The rushed development on the one hand and the rise in information accessibility and citizens' power to organize and take action on the other hand, stress the need to find the right equilibria between the requirements of different and diverse interested parties. This course will open a window to the world of Mutual Gains Approach as the conceptual foundation of environmental conflicts' prevention, management and settlement through multilateral mediation processes and the construction of consensus. In this course, students from different circles and disciplines can meet and work together to achieve the understanding, tools and skills necessary for environmental conflicts' management, performing the initial and most important stage in any project management – professional conflict assessment.
Course/Module aims:
The course's goals are:
◦The student will learn the conceptual foundation of the Mutual Gains Approach and the Collaborative Paradigm of environmental conflicts' management;
◦The student will learn and implement a structured model of mapping, analysis and assessment in an environmental conflict situation;
The student will acquire and implement an effective "toolbox" for handling environmental conflicts through processes of multilateral mediation and the agreement building
