Course/Module description:
The course will examine European attitudes toward non Europeans using travel literature and ethnographic works

Course/Module aims:
To examine European attitudes to "others" from religious and cultural perspective and to understand how dealing with the "other" enables better understanding of European history in the medieval and early modern period.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To read texts about the "other" and to analyse them using the tolls we learned in the course.

The "other" in medieval ethnographic literature.
The "other" in literary works
The encounter with the "other" in America and the Orient
Ethnographic descriptions of Jews in the early modern period.
