An introductory glimpse at the practices of natural history during 18th-19th centuries. We will consider how natural history relates not only to science but also to popular culture, literature, art, fashion, and as a tool for expressing national and social perceptions. We will follow the objects and practices used to study nature, and emphasize the ways in which women, children and the poor and other marginalized groups took an active part in the creation and consumption of knowledge about nature.
