תאור כללי של הקורס:
איזור הקווקז, שגבולותיו הים הכספי ממזרח והים השחור ממערב, הרי הקווקז מצפון והרמה האיראנית מדרום, הוא אזור מרתק וחשוב להיסטוריה המודרנית של המדינות השונות שבגבולותיהן הוא שוכן. קורס זה יציג בפני הסטודנטים את המציאות ההטרוגנית, התוססת, והמהפכנית של היחסים בין איראן והקווקז בראשית המאה העשרים. הקורס יתייחס לתנועות פוליטיות, להתפתחויות תרבותיות, ולסוגיות חברתיות וכלכליות שהפכו את הקווקז ל"אזור מפגש" (contact zone) רב משמעות.

בסיומו של קורס זה, סטודנטים יהיו מסוגלים:
1. להצביע על ההתרחשויות העיקריות בהיסטוריה הפוליטית, החברתית והתרבותית של הקווקז האיראני.
2. לאתר מקור ראשוני שעוסק באחד מנושאי הקורס ולהציג אותו בכיתה.
3. להצביע על חשיבותו של הקווקז להיסטוריה של איראן המודרנית.
