Course/Module description:
In the course we will review the symbols identified with Islam throughout history, customs and religious worship. This relates to the two main streams, the Sunna and Shi'a, while insisting on common characteristics and differences. The course will review how the symbols were formed from the dawn of Islam and the connection between the customs prevalent in Islamic society and religious worship and their development throughout Muslim history

Familiarity with the symbols of Islam, its customs and rituals (Sunna and Shi'a)
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To become familiar with the cultural and religious characteristics that make up the religion of Islam in the Sunni and Shi'ite streams and to become familiar with their historical origins and roots. Identify Islamic symbols and understand their historical significance and sources of development.
