Course/Module description:
This course exposes students to various language and speech disorders in children, such as Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Apraxia of Speech, and difficulties in speech and hearing processing. It covers different theories attempting to explain the occurrence of these disorders, factors influencing prognosis, and relevant points in the assessment and intervention of language and speech disorders, including assessment tools in Hebrew, language and speech diagnosis reports, and intervention principles.

Course/Module aims:
Recognizing different language and speech disorders in children and their characteristics.
• Understanding various theoretical frameworks for explaining the occurrence of language and speech disorders in children.
• Identifying different factors influencing language and speech abilities, including: risk factors in infants, bilingualism, collateral areas relate to the child’s communicative function, and language difficulties as part of different etiologies.
• Recognizing various formal and informal assessment tools in Hebrew.
• Understanding principles of assessment and intervention of children with language and speech disorders.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
• Define various language and speech disorders in children.
• Define terms related to language and speech disorders.
• Identify warning signs for language and/or speech disorders in children.
• Describe the levels of description and explanation of language difficulties.
• Describe the formal and informal assessment tools for language and speech disorders.
• Explain the impact of different factors on intervention and prognosis.
• Communicate with professionals in the field of language and speech – speech therapists
• Describe the relationship between language disorders in pre-school and learning disabilities in school-age children

• Different Language and Speech Disorders – DLD, apraxia of speech, auditory Processing Difficulties
• The Influence of collateral areas and bilingualism
• Different Etiologies Including Language and Speech Difficulties (ADHD, Syndromes, etc.)
• principals in assessment and intervention
• Language and learning

Grading Scheme :
Written / Oral / Practical Exam 70 %
Submission assignments during the semester: Exercises / Essays / Audits / Reports / Forum / Simulation / others 30 %
