Course/Module description:
In this course, we will deepen our knowledge on the processes of globalization from economic, political and cultural perspectives and their contribution to international migration movements. We will discuss how these processes and information and communication technologies build the identities of young people and migrants today. We will focus on how identity of young migrants are shaped and how educational systems in Israel and the world tackle with the ethnic and racial diversity in schools.

Course/Module aims:
To provide students with an understanding of the relationship between globalization and the global economy and migration processes, and the impact of economic and cultural globalization on the development of the identity of young people in general and young migrants in particular. Provide students with an in-depth view of school complexity of its religious, cultural and ethnic diversity and ways of dealing with it.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1.Characterize the processes of economic globalization and its effects on the division of labor and the contemporary labor market.

2. To infer from the nature of the global labor market to the skills required of the workers in this market and how the education system should prepare for it.

3. Describe how globalization processes encourage immigration processes.

4. Discuss how globalization and international arrangements and organizations influence the ability to set economic, political, social policies of the state and national culture (global versus local culture).

5. Explain how information and communication technologies affect social relationships and how young people and migrants’ identities are built.

6. Present the emerging identity types among young immigrants in the global world (transnational, hybrid, cosmopolitan) and explain the affinity of these identities to the global economy.

7. Distinguish between the different categories of immigrants (undocumented, migrant workers, asylum seekers and refugees) and characterize each of the groups.

8. Summarize how educational systems deal with the diversity of school populations.
