the course examines through philosophical educational and literary texts the project of European enlightenment and probes its relevance and viability to our present times in the light of multicultural aproaches and criticism..
Course/Module aims:
to understand the project of the enlightenemnt- its ideas and vision of man and society and their contribution to modern education
to realize that the project was challenged and criticized from its outset.and evaluate the radical challenge posed to it by multiculturalism
to evaluate the project and its viability for our times
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
to judge historically and in the light of the present the project of the enlightement and its educational ideas
to judge/propose options to reconcile the conflicting visions and demands of enlightement and multiculturalism

- Introduction:on the rationale of the course -- The project of enlightenment its vision of science, man, society and education
-Critics of the project, postmodernity,cultural relativism, multiculturalism
-Responses in defense of the enlightenment and beyond it
- Multiculturalism, the poltics of identity and education.
