Course/Module description:
The course is based on the belief that reading interesting, influential and challenging texts is an important educational process.
Deep reading is one out of several textual competences including the ability to deliberate and write.
These competences do not develop naturally. They require effort and exercise.
During the course we shall read and study together from an interdisciplinary set of great books. In the first part of the course the reading and discussion shall be led by the teacher, and towards its end the students shall take part in leading discussions.
The course grade will be based upon the discussion a student leads as well as submission of a report addressing the course content and reflectinf upon them.

Course/Module aims:

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
lead a joint reading and discussion based on Great Books.

Course/Module Content:
We shall read sections from a set of great books such as:

- Homer's Odyssey
- Genesis
- Plato's Symposium
- The Gospel of Matthew
- Al-Ghazali's autobiography
- Voltaire's Candid
- The Communist Manifesto

there may be certain changes

A few pages every week as preparation for the next class
