Course/Module description:
This course will examine theoretical explanations for the associations between trauma and addiction, describe research studies that examine these associations with a special emphasis on trauma among addicted women, describe and practice leading interventions in this domain, and discuss dilemmas regarding the right timing and which intervention model to choose.
Course/Module aims:
The course will provide theoretical and empirical knowledge on PTSD-SUD co-morbidity,address barriers for interventions, the special case of SUD-PTSD female patients, acquaintance with leading treatment models, and development of critical thinking regarding the existing knowledge, and the dissemination of the existing evidence-based SUD-PTSD interventions
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. Learn about the complexity of PTSD-SUD co-morbidity
2. Acknowledge theoretical approaches that explain the PTSD-SUD phenomena
3. Use basic skills in EBP treatment for PTSD-SUD patients
4. Identify barriers (time and type)to implementation of the interventions
5. Develop critical thinking regarding the existing knowledge and odds to disseminate EBP practices in the field of Social Work
6. Plan, in the final assignment, an intervention in a real case based on the acquired knowledge in this course

2. Theoretical explanations: Self-medication

4. Female PTSD-SUD patients. Relationships with intimate partner violence and with parenting
5. Seeking safety- EBP intervention for SUD-PTSD female patients
6. Prolonged Exposure therapy for SUD-PTSD co-morbidity
7. EMDR for treating PTSD among addicts
8. CPT approach to PTSD 9. Dilemmas in disseminating SUD-PTSD Evidence-Based interventions in Social Work practice
