Course/Module description:
In this class, we will examine a number of figures, focusing on Adam and Abraham, who cross the borders between religious traditions and are conceived of in differing, complementary and sometimes contradictory ways, in those traditions. Our examination will shed light on fundamental principles of these religions themselves and will serve as an introduction to the books held as holy by the two traditions.
Course/Module aims:
1. Identify and discuss the development and history of the religious traditions discussed.
2. Gain acquaintance with “great books” of Islamic and Jewish tradition.
3. Critically read and analyze secondary sources.
4. Evaluate and draw conclusions regarding the mutual influences between the religious traditions discussed.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
