Course/Module description:
The seminar will focus on several masterpieces of Latin American Literature which can be considered as rewritings of Cervantes' immortal work, "Don Quixote". The main topic of the course will be the fantastic: both as a semantic field and as a genre.

Course/Module aims:
To preform an analytic comparison between "Don Quixote" and selected works of Latin American Literature, in order to understand to what extent Latin American Literature adopts Cervantes' poetic principles while maintaining a relationship of mutual influence with "Don Quixote".

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
To examine the literary works of Latin American Literature and the dialogue between them and "Don Quixote", focusing on the topic of the fantastic.

Attendance requirements(%):
100

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Seminar course: intensive reading and participation of the students in the class discussion.
The student can write a final seminar paper.

Course/Module Content:
1.The poetic principles of "Don Quixote".
2. The concept of rewriting.
3. The fantastic genre .
4. The fantastic in "Don Quixote"
5. Rewritings of the topic of the fantastic in "Don Quixote" in Latin American short stories and novels.
6. The Bidirectional dynamics of rewriting.

Required Reading:
Don Quixote by Cervantes
El Coloquio de los perros, by Cervantes.
Works by Latin American writers (a detailed list will be provided in the first class)

Grading Scheme :
Essay / Project / Final Assignment / Referat 50 %
Submission assignments during the semester: Exercises / Essays / Audits / Reports / Forum / Simulation / others 20 %
