Course/Module description:
This course is a linguistic introduction of modern Spanish, which includes its most elementary structures -with emphasis on the use of the subjunctive- and the standard principles of normative spelling (according to the RAE).
Reading written texts, especially journalistic and literary, with an intermediate degree of difficulty and writing summaries are part of the course's tasks.

Course/Module aims:
Acquisition of skills by students to deal with texts in Spanish, understand and summarize them, and improve their skills in writing.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Understand texts of intermediate difficulty.
• Write texts in Spanish whose reading will be orderly, clear, and coherent.
• Identify the common morphological forms and some syntactic patterns, such as subjunctive tenses.

Attendance requirements(%):

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Lectures, reading, writing, practical exercises, analysis of parts of speech and sentences, take-home exam.

• Phonetics and phonology
• Principles of writing
• Morphology: The use of the subjunctive
• Direct and indirect speech
• Reading, writing, and analysis of texts.

Required Reading:
Reading will be given at the beginning of the semester.
Works not in the library may be obtained from the course coordinator.

PREREQUISITES:Proficiency in Spanish at intermediate level.

Advertisement: The course will be taught in Spanish with additional explanations in Hebrew.
