Course/Module description:
The course is a brief introduction to modern Spanish, in which we will describe some of its most important formal features by exploring a range of texts which are illustrative of colloquial registers.
Course/Module aims:
The aim of this course is to describe formal features of Spanish, with special emphasis on colloquial registers, the characteristics of their lexicon or some of the pragmatic rules governing the interaction between the Speech partners.
Colloquial registers are part of the unique language style that all speakers of a linguistic community dominate. Many of the innovations that lead to linguistic changes arise in them. However, they are not always taken into account in second language acquisition programs. From this point of view, this course also aims to immerse Spanish learners in the knowledge of this variety.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
• Understand texts of intermediate difficulty.
• Identify morphological forms, as well as syntactic patterns.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the main phonological, morphological, syntactic, pragmatic rules governing colloquial Spanish.
