Course/Module description:
The Muslim expansion in the 7th century generated deep cultural, institutional, religious and mental changes in the whole world as well as in Jewish societies. The new power met with old Jewish communities and with well developed Jewish culture. Along its formative period Islam adopted many Jewish and Christian perceptions and institutions. Upon becoming a hegemonic civilization it influenced and reshaped many aspects of Jewish culture and life. The course will follow this complex dialogue between the two world civilizations

Course/Module aims:
To shed light on the multifaceted process of inter religious and inter cultural encounters. To give a full picture of Jewish-Muslim relations with all their complexity

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Students will be acquainted with basic religious concepts in Judaism and Islam. They will become aware of the complexity of Jewish-Muslim relations.
