Course/Module description:
this course explores the interface between history and art/art history, as well as material culture. How can historians treat art works and material objects as part of the documents of a given culture?

Course/Module aims:
the development of analytical and interpretive skills of visual arts as a historical source/resource, as well as of material culture

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
At the end of this course students should be able to examine art works and material culture with historical methodological tools, and to draw conclusions therefrom as part of the broader cultural archive of a given period/culture. They will also learn to apprediate scholars who combine art and historical research

Attendance requirements(%):
25%

Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: discussions in seminar format. Papers include a preliminary presentation in class. Students hand in a weekly reading report on the class readings
