Course/Module description:
The course will deal with basic issues in the emergence of the prayer text and will focus on the Yemenite prayer book. We will discuss linguistic and stylistic issues that are reflected in the Yemenite prayer text and compare them to parallel texts.
Course/Module aims:
Exploring the differences between ancient and new prayer texts; developing familiarity with special versions in the Jewish communities prayer text and examining its authenticity; understanding linguistic phenomena in liturgical language in general and especially in the Yemenite tradition.
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
distinguish between old and new in the prayer text and its language, to recognize the origins of the versions and to analyze prayer texts from different linguistic and stylistic aspects.
