תאור כללי של הקורס:
הסמינר יעסוק באחת השאלות הגדולות והמסקרנות ביותר בחקר העולם העתיק. כיצד ומדוע הפכה תוך פחות מ-300 שנה כת יהודית שולית ונרדפת לדת הרשמית של הקיסרות הרומית? שאלה זו העסיקה היסטוריונים מאז ראשית ההיסטוריוגרפיה הנוצרית, אבל היא התעוררה שוב ביתר שאת במהלך הדור האחרון עם גיבוש המונח ההיסטוריוגרפי "שלהי העת העתיקה" והפופולרית שלה הוא זוכה במחקר. נתחקה אחר קשת התשובות השונות שניתנו לשאלה הגדולה של התנצרות האימפריה, תוך דגש על מגמות עכשוויות במחקר, וננתח את המקורות ואת הגישות התאורטיות שעליהם התשובות הללו מושתתות.
