Course/Module description:
The course will focus on the Aramaic Targumim for the Bible in general and for the Pentateuch in particular, including their linguistic and exegetical features, by means of close reading of a selection of chapters mainly from Targum Onqelos and Jonathan, as well as the Patestinian Targumim such as Neofiti, through Pseudo-Jonathan.

Course/Module aims:
1. To familiarize the student with the different Aramaic translations of the Bible in general, and of the Pentateuch in particular.
2. To provide tools for critical reading and philological and textual analysis of the Aramaic translations of the Bible
3. To locate the Aramaic translations within the history of biblical interpretation.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
1. To cope independently with the reading of the Aramaic Targumim.
2. To use the critical aids for understanding the Targumim.
3. To interpret the Targumim and evaluate their contribution to biblical exegesis.
