Course/Module description:
Playback theatre is a form of interactive theatre in which a group of performers, trained in improvisation and active listening skills, perform personal stories told by members of the audience. This theatre form lends itself to be used not only in a performance setting, but also as a theatrical tool that can help generate human empathy and collaboration within any group, and thus, is suitable for use in many contexts: therapeutic groups, working with the staff of an organization, making interventions in schools, addressing community issues, etc. The technique was developed in New York, by Jonathan Fox and Jo Salas in the 1970's, and it spread worldwide.
Course/Module aims:
This course familiarizes the students with the basic tenets of the approach through theory and practice:
Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
a. To be acquainted with the fundamentals of the technique.
b. To execute some basic exercises, such as fluid sculptures, pairs, and other short forms.
c. To analyze Playback performances from a critical point of view.
