Course/Module description:
The course deals with the coping methods of Mount Scopus’ student community in the face of the challenging political and social reality, using placemaking tools, performance studies, sustainability and urban activism.
The opening of the academic year was postponed in light of the events of October 7 and the war that broke out. The attacks and massacure, the war, and the public atmosphere urged many concerns among all university visitors, primarily considering future encounters between Jews and Arabs and between individuals and groups with different and opposing opinions. Following meetings of a team of lecturers and students, we created this new course, which provides a framework to alleviate some of these concerns and allow us to spend time, learn and work together. During the course, we will develop possibilities for action in the university space as an action of change.
The course will start immediately before the year officially begins. We will build together a green balcony to be used as a meeting place for study, conversation and joint work. Each of the course’s meetings will include a short inspirational guest lecture and work in planning, construction, and maintenance of the terrace. We will also spend time at each meeting to develop additional initiatives related to an inclusive and safe campus.
