Course/Module description:
Introduction course focused on providing the tools for poetry analysis. The course will explore various theories on what is poetry, stylistic devices, prosody and intonation, rhyme, and other topics. These will be explored primarily by reading and discussing poems in class.

Course/Module aims:
Gaining a comprehensive understanding of the technical terminology relating to the world of poetry and the various characteristics and elements of the poetic language of its diverse forms.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
Properly analyzing and interpreting a poem (content and form) by implementing literary theory.

Course/Module Content:
What is poetry?
The Language of Poetry and Functional Digressions.
Figurative Language: Simile, Metaphor, etc.
Repetition and Variation.
Sound and meaning.
Rhythm.
Intertext and Allusion.
Narrator, Narratee and Tone.
Poetic Forms,
Etc.


Required Reading:
The course materials displayed on Moodle and detailed in the syllabus. Preparing the materials in advance is mandatory for all participants.

Additional information:
