Course/Module description:
The course presents a survey of early Hebrew poetry in its development during the first Millennium CE from cultural, aesthetic and historical perspectives: from the foundations of biblical poetry, through early post-biblical verse (including Qumran), Talmud and Hekhalot, and early Piyyut.

Course/Module aims:
Define and characterize major developments in the Hebrew poetry of the first Millennium.

Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to:
General knowledge of a rich and diverse key period in the history of Hebrew poetry and basic ability to appreciate and enjoy poems written during this time.

Attendance requirements(%):
Full attendacne expected.

The lectures are in Hebrew, but in special cases assignments can be submitted in English.
